Yaung Chi Thit wishes our friends, partners, and donors a peaceful and joyful day. Today is the day Yaung Chi Thit celebrates the 10 year anniversary of our journey serving the women of Myanmar. Yaung Chi Thit has worked together with our friends and partners from different fields during the last 10 years. Yaung Chi Thit started its journey as an organization in the year 2009 in Myebon Township, Rakhine State by conducting a leadership training session of 20 young men and women from 10 villages under the leadership of Daw Khin Hla. Participants of that training came to be able to find the opportunities for development of their respective communities while some of them now are in leadership positions taking great responsibilities in Yaung Chi Thit. YCT provides women’s leadership training to the targeted beneficiaries of Lutheran World Federation (LWF)

On invitation by the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), Yaung Chi Thit provided women’s leadership training for women beneficiaries of LWF on June 14 to 16, 2019 in Sittwe Township, Rakhine state. Women and Law Training in Pathein Township, Ayeyarwaddy Region

Inclusive Development and Empowerment of Women in Rakhine project being implemented in Rakhine State

In collaboration with Oxfam, YCT has been implementing “Inclusive Development and Empowerment of Women in Rakhine project” in 8 villages in 4 Townships of Rakhine State since 2018. Among those villages, there was Ya Chaung village in Ponnagyun Township with a population of 500, and 3 women participants were included in the Gender Leadership Training. The training was organized into 3 modules. After Modules 1 and 2, the 3 participants from the village were able to share with their experiences and knowledge acquired at the training to 70 villagers in their community.

After conducting Module 3, Yaung Chi Thit supported the village by providing some funds for fencing reservoirs, which the villagers raised as their urgent need. A Glimpse at the National Strategic Planning for Advancement of Women (2013 – 2022)

A magazine published by Women Can Do It (WCDI) @ Mothers’ Capacity organization includes an article on NSPAW authored by the director of Yaung Chi Thit. Due to having limited time, the whole article will be described in full in the future. For women in Myanmar to fully enjoy their rights, advance their lives, and have gender equality, a system of understanding and recognizing women rights, for the implementation of constitution and practice, NSPAW – National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women with a ten-year period was drawn and adopted in 2013. This plan was drawn up based on international conventions, laws, and standards such as; Convention on Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Beijing Act, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to which Myanmar is a signatory.

Provide small funds for actions after Gender Leadership training

One of the project areas: Tain Nyo village, Mrauk-U township is divided into two parts: Northern and Southern and the village administrator is a woman. There are more than 330 households with agriculture as the main source of their livelihood. The village is located about 300 Yards away from the Yangon – Sittwe highway road and no civil society organizations have ever conducted any project in the village. In terms of economy, it is left far behind her [L1] counterparts. In order to select 3 female villagers for the project and explain it, our organizations first conducted preliminary discussions that involved the community members including the village administrator and collected ground data and information. We Stand Together for More Women Leaders Campaign (Twe Lat Nyi Nyi Campaign)

Yaung Chi Thit has been implementing She Leads @ Women Leadership Program across the country since 2015 and launched We Stand Together for More Women Leaders campaign in 2017. One of alumnae; Aye Aye Naing from Ann Township, Rakhine State shared her experiences and knowledge from the training to 43 participants from her community at Alinyaung Monastery, Pyin Daw Gyi village, Ann Township on February 26, 2018. She Leads and Media

“She Leads”, one of Yaung Chi Thit’s strategic thematic programs was publicized in national and international media; this widely promoted the She Leads program and highlighted the importance of women’s leadership roles in decision making processes and politics. In addition, Yaung Chi Thit developed a documentary of the She Leads program which was broadcast by MRTV, a state-owned television channel in Myanmar.  By having the opportunity to learn about topics related to media in the Women Leadership Training under the She Leads Program, some alumnae have got involved in the field of media. She Leads Talk (Bago)


She Leads Talk, a discussion session, is one of the activities under the She Leads Program. The Talk was named “Discussion on promoting Women’s participation in Leading Roles” and was successfully implemented at Shwe Tawh Hall, Bago on April 21, 2019 (Sunday) led by She Leads’ alumna from Bago Region. During the discussion, one of the She Lead’s alumnae, Daw Mu Mu Than was involved as a panelist together with Daw Zar Hmi Oo (Legal Advocate), Daw Myint Myint Wai (Member of Bago Township Municipal Committee). Exposure visit of GLP alumnae from Rakhine to Self-Help Women Groups in Innlay, Nyaungshwe, and Taunggyi Townships

Six GLP alumnae from Mrauk U, Ponna Gyun and Sittwe townships visited Innlay, Nyaung Shwe, and Taunggyi townships for 4 days from March 14 to 17 in 2019 in order to learn how self-help women groups have been working for women economic empowerment and how they make market linkages for their products. On the first day, they visited “Shwe Inn Thu” and the women’s cohort in Innlay township called “Shwe Innlay” to learn how they operate their work. The six alumnae also visited the Southern Shan Women Development Organization (SSWDO) and the Southern Shan State Women Organizations Network (SSSWON) to learn about their work and activities.
