The Fourth Asia Electoral Stakeholders Forum conducted in Colombo, Sri Lanka

The Election Commission of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, in partnership with the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), invited Yaung Chi Thit to participate in the 4th Asian Electoral Stakeholder Forum (AESF IV), which was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 27 to 28 August 2018.

The forum is the most celebrated gathering between Election Management Bodies (EMBs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Asia. AESF is a continuing engagement among stakeholders to discuss issues that affect and characterize the conduct of elections in contemporary Asia. There have been three successful gatherings since it was first launched in 2012: AESF-1 in Bangkok, Thailand (2012), AESF-2 in Dili, Timor-Leste (2015), and AESF-3 in Bali, Indonesia (2016). The 4th Forum will once again provide the space and opportunity for stakeholders to meet and gather to foster positive collaborations in promoting genuine electoral democracy – that which recognizes the diverse cultures and traditions in the region. The forum was organized around the theme Advancing Election Integrity: Promoting and Defending Democracy Together”.

From Myanmar, Union Election Commission’s Director General U Khin Maung Oo, Union Election Commission member, U Soe Reh, and representatives from civil society organizations, including Yaung Chi Thit attended the forum and YCT discussed the important role of civil society organizations in electoral processes.
